While developed during the 50's to be used as anesthesia, PCP has never made it to the market for human use. Due to the erratic side effects, it was deemed illegal. Now going by street names such as angel dust, rocket fuel, and wack, PCP is sold as an illicit substance.
Effects of PCP
People who use PCP experience different sensations. Users usually experience a disassociation of time and space from when and where they are at the current moment. While high on PCP, a person may feel weightless, euphoric, or even experience hallucinations. Many times, abusers of this drug suddenly feel paranoid due to disturbing hallucinations.
While people use PCP to get high, they often do not expect the severe side effects that can come along with it. For instance, a bad reaction to angel dust could include seizures, violent aggressiveness, and even death.
Short term effects: Breathing rates slightly increase and pronounces into a rise in blood pressure along with a rise in pulse rate. Breathing becomes shallow, blushing along with copious sweating. Loss of muscle coordination may also occur. These drugs can disturb the ability to think and communicate because of the abuse.
Long term effects: Many long term effects are found due to the regular abuse of the PCP for a long time. This includes negative effects on the respiratory system and respiration stops within minutes, which leads to sudden death of the person. Vomiting, hazy vision, flicking up and down of eyes, and etc. are a few effects caused by abusing PCP. About 90% of PCP drug abusers are brought into emergency rooms with severe psychological effects. With high doses of the drug inside them, the central nervous system is affected and the abuser can even go into a coma.
Parents should talk about the dangerous effects of PCP drug abuse with their children. Prevention is always better than cure, so it’s better to take necessary steps to not abuse drugs .
